The gardens are quite extensive. You can visit them before or after the museum. In addition to being populated with a large number of plants and trees, there is a display that highlights and describes all of the various missions in Alta California. Again, just a sampling of what you can see in the garden is shown here. You could wander through it for several hours to see everything. Visiting in the winter will, of course, give a different display than visiting in the summer.
Various cacti are on display throughout the garden.

This olive tree could be an original. Its trunk consists of several wrapping around each other.

Scattered throughout the garden are various statues. The Virgin Mary is depicted to the left and the wooden statue on the right is supposed to represent Saint Serra. |
